League Teams 2026

Hello Members

It is that time of year when we have to put forward teams for the Plymouth and District League and the South Devon League. All members are eligible to play for Ivybridge in the League.

If you would like to play for the club please add your details to this shared spreadsheet (please note your contact details will be visible to the other members of the club, if you do not want them included just add your name).

What is Team Tennis?

Team Tennis is regular competitive doubles between April and August, where you represent your club against other local clubs on outdoor courts.

The South Devon Tennis Centre has a mixture of ability teams, from lower division to top division teams. We play in the Plymouth and District and the South Devon Leagues.

The more people who commit to playing at the start of the season, the more teams we can put out each year.

Anyone who purchases a Core Membership can play for the South Devon Tennis Centre in league matches. Individuals in a family who purchase the Annual Outdoor Pass are not members of the club and cannot play for the club. Children over 14 years of age who the coach feels are strong enough can play in the P&D leagues.

HOW MANY MATCHES DO YOU PLAY?

The season usually consists of approximately 5 home and 5 away matches.

You will play in a team of 8-10 other players. Each week a team of 4 players, 2 pairs, will play against two pairs from another club.

All team members will give their availability at the start of the season and be allocated matches.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Matches are played outside so you don’t pay a court fee, but there is a £3.50 charge per person for home matches to cover the cost of the tennis balls.

Players make their own arrangements to travel to and from other clubs, and sometimes lift share.

The cost of entering a team is £20 per team entry, and the balls for home matches costs £58.77 for the season or £11.75 per home match. Lights and additional staffing to cover matches that go past the centre closure time of 9pm, are then to be added on top of this to the cost of a home match, therefore Members are asked to contribute £3.50 per person towards the costs (except Juniors). The used balls are then sold by the club after the match to recoup some of the shortfall.

Squash and water will be provided by the club for all players. Additional snacks, cakes and fruit can be provided by the teams themselves should they wish.

It is the captain’s responsibility to collect all of the match fees for the home matches and give them to the centre at the end of the season.

Members are encouraged to take photos during their matches (seeking permission from the players first) and share them with the club’s management, along with match results through info@sdtennis.co.uk so that they can be posted on social media.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT?

During each match, you and your partner will play against two other parings from another club. You will play the best of three sets, with the third set being a tiebreaker.

WHEN DO YOU PLAY?

All matches are played on week a night. Matches usually start at 6PM, and finish around 9PM. The dates are set by the league and only get cancelled when there is extremely bad weather, so we are looking for people who can make a commitment to play.

WHAT DOES YOUR TEAM NEED TO DO TO WIN?

Your team will play all of the other pairs in your division. Every game you win will count towards your point total. The top 2 pairs will get promoted to the division above. The bottom two will be demoted.
