Disability Open Day - Volunteers needed!

Hi There,

I am delighted to write of a new initiative which the South Devon Tennis Centre have been selected to pilot. The proposal, in conjunction with Double Bounce and Bright Ideas for Tennis, is to target those people with a disability and to give them the opportunity to play tennis. Our goal is to be recognised as the main disability/inclusive hub for tennis in Devon.

Each session will be led by a qualified tennis coach, but we are also looking for a group of volunteers that would be willing to donate 1 hour of their time per week in order to make the sessions as productive as possible.

DO NOT WORRY IF YOU HAVE NO EXPERIENCE!! WE WILL HELP YOU!

Former British Davis Cup player and friend to the club Danny Sapsford is helping facilitate the campaign through his charity Bright Ideas for Tennis.

We are running a Disability Open Day on Sunday May 10th from 2-4pm, where we will be inviting anyone with a disability to try tennis. From there, we hope that participants will continue to play and join sessions run by Fiona Murphy of Double Bounce.

To make the Open Day run we need volunteers. There will be training at the club in the morning of the Open Day (Sun 10th May) from 10.30am-1pm led by Mark Bullock who has over 25 years experience with disability sport. He has managed wheelchair tennis development for the ITF and runs a consultancy business advising in All-inclusive sports development. Suffice to say, we are very lucky to have him.

Our idea is that volunteers are "trained" in the morning, enjoy a complimentary lunch with us from 1-2pm, then help deliver the Open Day from 2-4pm

Please could you kindly let me know if you would like to help with the project and if you can make it to the training which is open to everybody (tennis coaches/tennis club members) free of charge. It might be an excellent opportunity for students who are attaining their Duke of Edinburgh awards or any adults who can spare some time. This initiative will only work with help from our club members / friends so please spread the word and do let me know if you are able to help.

Similarly, if you have connections with any organisations/ individuals who could benefit from this initiative please let me know so we can invite them to come and join in too.

Should you have any questions please let me know or contact Fiona directly on doublebounce2017@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,

Danny Sapsford
