Strategic Plan - Our Story Continues

Hello Members

Before Xmas I promised you that I would feedback on your answers from the surveys we conducted. Thank you so much to everyone who responded, we have some great feedback. I have summarized this for you, here were the headlines:

YOU SAID

  • Things that are good - coaches, staff, friendly
  • Things to improve – the carparking, membership, toilets, more social events
  • Our current brand is – Fun Friendly, welcoming, blue, green and yellow
  • 96% of those asked said they would recommend us to a friend
  • What would entice people to buy a membership - Coaching products, Fitness classes, club sessions added to membership packages
  • What do members want – more benefits, more discounts and more social events and a clearer membership structure
  • What kind of tennis do people want – top answers fun, social, improve my game and coaching, all topping the list over competitive matches
  • What are indoor courts booked for – Friendly games and box matches mostly
  • Can they book indoor courts when they want – 2 people said no and 15 said sometimes – and the main reason, is that there are no courts in the evenings when they want them
  • Reasons for not using our outdoor courts – hands down the biggest answer was the weather – followed by liking the indoor courts better and they play outdoors elsewhere
  • Which outdoor surfaces do they like - 37.5% Hard court , 35% Artificial Grass, 10% Clay
  • Do they play at other clubs? Only 2 people who responded to the survey were non members, but 15 people said they play their outdoor tennis at another club.
  • Our Junior Programme is: Fun Friendly, Professional
  • Only 21% of those who responded understand what the journey is for their child through our programme
  • Would you like your child to play more tennis? – not a single person said NO
  • What could we improve with the junior programme : more 1 to 1 coaching, smaller group sizes – and a lot of people said nothing
  • What do you think of our café : 15 people said we provide good quality food, 13 people said we provide good value for money
  • But 11 people said they choose not to eat in the café
  • What do they want on the menu: more healthy options, pasta, fruit, salads

You can request to see a full copy of the results from reception if you would like to see them.

SO WHAT NOW?

We will be producing a Strategic Plan document, but in the meantime we have already begun tackling some of the issues and comments that you raised:

  • We are trying some healthier options in the cafe
  • We are about to launch a crowd funding campaign to improve the toilets and other facilities. We hope to generate some money and get some match funding from grant funders
  • We are exploring all options for better use of the outdoor courts, including looking at the surface and if it is possible to cover some of them.
  • We have created a page on our website about the junior programme to give parents a better idea of what we offer and the journey their child could take: LTA Youth (southdevontenniscentre.co.uk)
  • We will be removing the Peak prices from the courts, to make pricing easier to understand and a bit cheaper for users.
  • And the big one - over the next few months, Lesley, Paul and the Committee will be reviewing the membership packages. We will be holding some focus groups before we take our ideas to the AGM in November, so we welcome your input in this.

Thank you for following our journey and if you would like to get involved in the startegic plan, or volunteer your time to help improve our facility, you would be most welcome. Please reply to this email and we will add you to you volunteer scheme - watch this space

thank you

Lesley Crocker
