A Great Week at South Devon Tennis Centre

It has been an exciting week at the South Devon Centre and we would like to share details of the achievements with all our members.
Most importantly, we are pleased to inform you that our Director of Tennis, Paul Butcher, was selected for the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2018 Devon County LTA Annual Awards. We all know what a great job Paul does in running all things tennis at Ivybridge as he has done for 33 years but he has had a massive impact throughout the county as well and it is wonderful that this has been recognised. Some quotes from his nomination are:
"producing great tennis programmes for adults and juniors alike at all levels, taking the Club to another level"
"strong links with the Community College...early morning Academy squads...recently introduced touch tennis at lunchtimes"
"always seeking imaginative ways to encourage tennis in a way that is fun"
"the number of first class players that have been coached by him"

Well done Paul.

An example of the great work that Paul and his team of coaches do was the very successful LTA Roadshow held at the club last weekend. During the previous week, the LTA Roadshow squad visited 10 primary schools in the area and spent time with the children giving them a taste of tennis. All the children were invited to one of three free sessions over the weekend. An absolutely incredible 1,034 children together with their parents visited the club and took part in the inspirational sessions run by Phil Leighton (LTA) and Pauls coaches and leaders. As a result 186 children have signed up for a six week introductory coaching programme. These figures are the best ever achieved by the LTA Roadshow programme which has been touring the country for a number of years.

The strength of a junior programme depends on a continuing flow of new players at the base of the pyramid and the commitment of the whole coaching team has taken a huge step towards achieving that. Finally we would like to thank the members who had to make do without access to the indoor courts for much of last weekend, making the whole event possible.

ITC Committee.
