Changes to the Friday night club session

Dear Member,

This is to advise you of a change to the format of the Friday evening club session. Originally Friday was set aside for those who were new or returning to tennis...many of you would have come through the old Hit and Hopers sessions. These sessions also provided an invaluable stream of new members to the club.

Over the years the original concept has gradually been eroded and Friday evenings have become a standard club night. Unfortunately, this leaves little scope for inexperienced players to develop their skills and confidence...and we are aware that there has often been a mismatch in skill levels between competing players. So, from this Friday the 10th May we will be setting aside, one or two courts for beginners and returners. A coach will also be available to help them develop their game from 7 to 8.30pm. Clearly how this develops will be subject to demand. After the coach has left, these players will be joining in the normal club session format.

We would ask you to support us in what in reality, is a return to the original objective of the evening. Inclusivity in sport is incredibly important and we are a club that supports not only people who are new to this great sport but also disability sport. If you attend Friday evening’s please come with this in mind...we are also looking for people to act as mentors and perhaps have a gentle 'knock up' with these potential new members.

The number of club members has declined over the last couple of years and it is essential for us to provide a pathway in for new members.

We hope that we can count on your support.
